What other ways are there for Job Hunting other than using the Internet and Agencies?

Aamina asked:

i’ve been job hunting for months now and i’ve only been using the Internet and Agencies that i find online; however this has NOT been working for me! i heard that you should not solely rely on the internet to find a job, but what other ways are there?

do people still walk into companies and ask if they are hiring like we used to? can i do that? can i call companies and ask to speak to the HR department or a Recruiter? can i walk in and ask to speak with a manager or recruiter? what are some other ways?

lol. Of course there are still Walk-Ins. And it’s still the best way. You need to be in there ans show you want it, otherwise it just seems you’re sitting at home in your Pj’s sending emails

yea walk in and ask if they’re hiring and if not still ask for an application..if they still do paper applications, that way they’ll have your application on file when they need someone. but got out and get a bunch of newspapers they usually have alot of employment ads

I would not walk in and demand an audience. You should mail your resume and cover letter to every company you are qualified and interested in working for. Many positions are filled from resumes they have on hand.

Also, your network of friends is a huge resource. Make sure they know you are looking and what your profession is (sometimes friends are not too clear on each others professions).

Your college alumni association is another source, send your resume directly to other grads who are working in companies you want.
